Japanese Pokemon Nano Block Magikarp & Chansey Coming June 30th

Kawada Company in Japan will be releasing 2 new Pokemon Nano Block figures on June 30th. This time it will be Magikarp and Chansey.

For those of you who are not familiar with Nano blocks, they are mini Lego-type building blocks, but they are much smaller (thus the name Nano meaning “small”). These mini blocks are made by Kawada company in Japan and are only for sale in Japan.  There have been over 40 different Pokemon characters made so far, plus several sets, for a total of more than 75 different Pokemon.  You can find the previous released Nano Blocks on Pokevault.  These two new figures will be available after June 30th.  You can build a specific Pokemon character, or of course you can combine different sets to build other things. The best part about Nano Blocks is that they are really small, so you can build much more detailed items.

Pokemon D-Arts Charizard, Mewtwo & Blastoise Figures

There is a new type of figure that was just released in Japan that is extremely popular. Its called a D-Arts figure. The figures are made by Bandai corporation. These figures are incredible. They are the most life-like Pokemon moveable figures that have been made. They have jointed limbs, so they can be posed in many different ways.Mewtwo

Mewtwo-  The first figure made was the Mewtwo D-Arts figure made. Its about 4.25″ or 11cm tall. This figure was released in April, 2013. It was only sold in Japan. Mewtwo has moveable jointed legs, arms and tail. Even its fingers have moveable joints. It can be posed in several different standing poses as well as a flying pose.  It also comes with a blue Aura sphere that Mewtwo can hold to make more poses. Mewtwo also comes with a clear Pokeball shaped stand. For a very limited time since this was the very first D-Arts figure made, Mewtwo comes with a small Mew figure. Its about 1″ or 2.5cm tall. The Mew figure is not poseable, but very cute. Mew will only be included in the first edition production of the Mewtwo, so only for a very limited time.

Charizard- This figure is scheduled for release on April, 20, 2013 in Japan. It has poseable legs, arms, neck, wings and tail. Even its mouth can open and close. It can be posed in the classic position with it breathing fire into the air, hiding its head under its wings, flying position and more. It comes with a fireball that can be attached to make really cool fire-breathing poses as well. I will have more information after Charizard is released.

CharizardBlastoise- This figure is scheduled for release on June 30, 2013. This figure doesnt seem to be able to do as many poses as the Mewtwo and the Charizard figures, obviously due to the fact that it has small arms and legs. But as far as I can tell, the legs, arms, and neck move. As well as the 2 cannons have missles that can be attached to make it look like Blastoise is shooting.

So far only Mewtwo, Charizard and Blastoise have been scheduled for release in Japan, but Im assuming that based on how popular that these figures are, there will surely be more figures in the future.

Where can I buy one of these figures?

There are several places to buy the D-Arts figures. Ebay is one place, but I definitely do not recommend it. Unfortunately there are many fake or bootlegs D-Arts figures all over Ebay. I checked and I saw many more fake ones than real ones. The ones for sale from Hong Kong and China sellers on Ebay seem to be a reasonable price ranging from $30-50. But don’t be fooled. These are fake or bootlegs. These figures were only sold in Japan, not Hong Kong and China (although they are of course made in China). $30 is far below what the figures actually cost in the stores in Japan, so its easy to tell these are bootlegs.Blastoise

An authentic one will run you about $70-80 or so. It is always safest to buy from a Japanese seller, whether you buy it on Ebay or from an online shop. You can buy authentic ones on Pokevault as well as thousands more different authentic Pokemon merchandise including cards, deck boxes, sleeves, dice, figures, Pokedolls, plush toys and much more.

How to Collect Pokemon Figurines

By Jill/Redterror117

Since having escalated in popularity worldwide, the Pokemon franchaise has been able to produce many different sorts of products. From games, to shows, to cards, and even toys, there are all different kinds of items that can be sought and collected as a hobby. Apart from one of the more obvious collectables (being Pokemon cards), Pokemon figurines are another easily collectable item, the majority of which are produced by a company called ‘Tomy’. However like any collectable there are always guidelines that should be followed, in order to make the process easy to follow.

First of all, devise a method for how you decide to go about purchasing the figurines. It’s one thing to decide that you want to collect them all, but with over 500 different Pokemon out there, it makes the entire collecting process a bit overwhelming. Try breaking the collection into chunks, such as collection according to region (perhaps start on the first 151 Pokemon first, then work on the Johto Pokemon next, then Hoenn, etc.). This will make it easier to track progress. Another key thing to do before getting started is to make a list of all the Pokemon you’re going to collect, and update it regularly. This will help to prevent picking up doubles of a Pokemon figurine by mistake. You also need to determine which ‘generation’ of figures you want to collect, as the original set of Pokemon produced by Tomy are of higher quality, yet are on the pricy side (online they can sometimes go for $4-6 a piece if still in packaging). The more recently produced figures are easily more affordable to a beginner, yet are not of the best quality. It’s up to the collector to decide which they want to go for.

Depending on where you end up buying the figurines from may affect how easy or hard the challenge of collecting can be. Some toy stores only carry the most recent figures from the fifth generation, making the Pokemon from earlier games a bit more difficult to find. If you’re lucky you may live near a store dedicated to everything anime and manga as I do, where individual figures can be purchased for fairly cheap (at $0.75 Canadian apiece for the new non-fifth-gen figures). When purchasing online however it is buyer beware, but because the new Tomy figures are produced in China, the red flag of buying in China and Hong Kong is not as big of a deal versus something like plushies, and is normally the more affordable way to go. If you do decide to purchase from somewhere like eBay, make sure to do this prior to buying in a store, as many sellers offer lots of multiple assorted figures. By buying these lots first to start your set, you can reduce the chances of obtaining doubles of any figures. Sometimes a quick browse on online local ads or yard sales can reveal some of the older, harder to find figurines.

To add to the fun, try collection Pokemon figures with a friend. This way you can work together with them to complete your sets, and both trade and discuss new figures and good finds.
