Only three Pokemon introduced in this generation were given gender differences, two of which have a unique type combination of Water/Ghost – Frillish and Jellicent. Both are based off from old English royalty and jellyfish.
Female Frillish are pink and based off from jellyfish and perhaps a princess. Its head is rounded, the top of it forming a tiara-like shape. It has a ruffled collar and a trailing ‘dress’ and flowing arms like the sleeves of a dress. They have red ringed eyes and blue pupils. Male Frillish are blue and appear to be based off from jellyfish and a prince. Its head is rounded, the top of it forming a small crown. Its collar is ruffled like a male royals and its trailing body resembles shirt tails. They have blue ringed eyes with red pupils. Frillish are the only unevolved Pokemon other than Nidoran whose gender differences are visible in the PC Boxes. However, their heads are much larger and the ruffles surrounding them seem a bit overbearing. Its ‘robes’ are a bit out of proportion with its head, as its smaller body. The top of its head is topped with a ‘crown’ and its mouth is in the shape of a heart. Male Frillish have just as big of heads as the females, though instead of neck ruffles they have mustaches. Their eyes are blue ringed and have red pupils and have a crown-like growth atop their heads. Male Frillish bodies seem to be modeled after kings’ robes. Jellicent’s pokedex entries state that every ship and crewmember to wander into a Jellicent’s habitat all end up lost at sea, never to be seen by their loved ones again.
