The Scoop On Pokemon Critical Hits

By Matt

Having a critical hit land is a major game-changing factor. Like EVs and EV training, a critical hit is another game mechanic overlooked by many. Don’t worry, I’ll explain it entirely. First of all, you notice critical hits do more in a battle (mainly because of the message “A critical hit!”). That’s because they deal 2 times the regular damage, without computing Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) or type matchups. If the right items and moves are used, critical hits can be used to take out fast-moving, powerful Pokemon in battle. A chance of getting a critical hit is divided into five stages, each having a higher percentage than the other.

Pokemon Normal Type Move Summaries Part 9

By Matt

This is my 25th article. I would like to extend my thanks to Brian of hardrock-pokemon.com for posting these articles.

I will be discussing Normal-type Pokemon moves. The entire list can be found at http://www.serebii.net/attackdex-bw/normal.shtml. This provides a complete list with PP, Base Power, Accuracy, and a complete description. When you click on the move, you can see more details, like which Pokemon can learn it.

Let’s finish the remaining S moves.

Softboiled is a recovery move that has an effect similar to the others; it is not affected by weather conditions like Morning Sun or Moonlight.

Sonicboom is great for weaking low-level wild Pokemon. It does 20 damage (in HP), which is around average for level 10 Pokemon. Of course, replacing this move is a must, since Pokemon will usually end up at about 200-400 HP at level 100.

Pokemon Normal Type Moves Part 8

At last, I’ve reached the end of the Normal-type moves, beginning with the letter S!

Safeguard prevents status problems for five full turns. Moves like Façade won’t be as effective, so plan carefully.

Scary Face reduces the target’s Speed stat by two levels. Now your Pokemon can strike first if it’s slow moving.

Scratch is one of the starter Pokemon’s moves. It’s weak, so in the name of all that is Pokemon, find a stronger attack.

Pokemon Normal Type Move Summaries Part 7

I will be discussing Normal-type Pokemon moves. The entire list can be found at http://www.serebii.net/attackdex-bw/normal.shtml. This provides a complete list with PP, Base Power, Accuracy, and a complete description. When you click on the move, you can see more details, like which Pokemon can learn it.

The letters of today’s article will be: R, T, and W. (S will be in Part 8.)

Roar inflicts no damage on the target, but it forces it to switch out with another Pokemon. If you use this while battling a wild Pokemon, it will just disappear.

Rock Climb is an HM move, but it comes with much power. At a power of 90, it is 85 percent accurate, and may cause the target to become confused.

Pokemon Normal Type Move Summaries Part 6

I’ll now be talking about Normal-type moves beginning with N, O, P, Q, U, V, and Y. The reason is because O, Q, U, V, and Y have only one move.

Natural Gift’s attack power depends on the hold item, which has to be a Berry. I wouldn’t advise using this move; Berries will almost always be consumed in battle, and I believe that if the user doesn’t have a berry, it can’t use this move.

Nature Power is a move completely dependent on what kind of terrain there is. The animation will change depending if you’re in water, tall grass, a cave, etc.

Let’s move on to L and M moves.

Last Resort suggests exactly what its name is: a last resort. You can only use this after you’ve used all your other 3 moves, so make sure they’re useful. And, after you use Last Resort, you have to use all 3 moves again, so proceed with caution.

Leer, a very basic move, lowers the target’s Defense by one level. This is good early on in the game, then when you fight higher leveled Pokémon, it becomes sort of obsolete, if you know what I mean.

If I remember correctly, we’re on G, H, and J now.

There’s no moves starting with I, what a shame (Giga Impact is the physical equivalent of Hyper Beam: its power is 150, but the user has to rest on the next turn.

Glare paralyzes the opponent. This can be useful for getting slower Pokemon in your party to move first.

Growl lowers the opponent’s Attack. Charm is a much better alternative for this move (because it lowers two levels).

This time around, I will be summarizing moves beginning with E through F.

Echoed Voice is a special move. Even though its base power is 40, it will increase with every successive use. Remember, if you stop using it, it will go back to 40.

Egg Bomb is one of those powerful moves, but only has a ľ chance of landing. Be careful; you can only use this move 10 times.

We now move on to Normal-type moves beginning with C and D.

First up is Camouflauge, which turns the user into a type depending on where you are battling. If you find a Pokemon in tall grass that uses this move, it will turn into a Grass-type. The same goes for caves and water: it will turn into a Rock or Ground-type, and Water-type, respectively.

Acupressure is first on the move list. It sharply raises (two levels) one of its stats (which I think is picked randomly). I’m not too confident that this move would be helpful; I would prefer a move that just raises the stat the Pokemon is weakest in. After You is a move that makes the target move immediately after the user. This is a great strategy in Double or Triple Battles, since slow, lumbering Pokemon have a chance to get a hit (or even an OHKO) before they are wiped out by a super-effective attack. It’s weak in Single Battles, where the only target is the enemy Pokemon, so unless you battle a lot online or with friends, I wouldn’t suggest keeping this move.
