Pokemon Secret Bases

By Anonymous

Have you ever heard of a secret base? Unless you remember Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald for the Gameboy you probably haven’t. I really miss this feature, it was great. Every few days I changed the entire appearance of my base. All you need is a Pokemon with the attack Secret Power to make the base. You see, on Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, you simply had to find an indent on a wall or a tree, yes even a tree! I loved the tree bases, I have a base in a giant tree guys! It was just awesome. Especially if you were to mix records with your friends in the Union Room, then they could find your base on their game and visit, to see what you’ve done.

However, if you change something, like put a new poster up or something, your friend won’t be able to see it unless you mix records again, just simply to update it. Your friends and other trainers can fight a copy of you when they find your base. Your trainer sprite will just be standing there and if your friend talks to you, then you can battle. The battle is used as a CPU controlling, but they have your party of Pokemon that you had at the time when you mixed records. Now back to making a Secret Base.

A Teenager’s View on Oshawott

By Matt

Oshawott is mainly known by many as the “5th Gen Water Starter”. I would, in the past, nickname it the “Emo Seal” when its English name was not revealed. In fact, the only Japanese name I felt comfortable pronouncing was Pokabu (Tepig), because I always left the “r” out in “Tsutarja” (thus pronouncing it Tsu-ta-ja). Oshawott’s name in Japanese is Mijumaru. Like all starters, it is the third basic (first stage) starter to be listed. It is #7 in the Black/White Pokédex and #501 chronologically, that is, including all generations. Another feature that makes it like all the other water starters in the past is its ability: Torrent. As we all know, it raises Water-type moves to 1.5x when Oshawott’s HP is low (33% or lower). This means that any Water-type move done when Torrent is in effect will be 2x damage, not counting type matchups, because using moves that are the same type as the user will give it a 1.5x bonus. I actually don’t know how much power this would actually be; I’m just adding up the bonuses instead of multiplying. To multiply 1.5 by 1.5 would give Water-type moves 2.25x power.

A Teenager’s View on Emolga

By Matt

Here’s the trend I’ve seen with Pokemon for each region: There’s always some sort of adorable, mouse Pokemon that draws many people’s attention. Kanto featured Pikachu, the character that started it all, and now is a household name. Johto had Pichu, which was figured out as the pre-evolution of Pikachu. Hoenn, the third region, had Plusle and Minun, the electric duo that would assist the other in battle (abilities are Plus and Minus, which both raise the power of the other’s moves). Sinnoh had Pachirisu, the Electric Squirrel Pokemon, which many found cute and lovable. Now, we’re at Unova, with Emolga, the flying Squirrel! When I first saw Emolga, I thought it was like a flying Pikachu.

Take Your Pick Of Pokemon Starters

By UR2L8

For more than a decade now, trainers across the globe have explored various regions, thwarted villainous organizations, and befriended a multitude of different creatures – Pokemon. It is through the bond trainers share with Pokemon that make such extraordinary adventures possible. In 2011, there are nearly 650 different species, and with each trainer carrying six at a time, the differences between even two could be as apparent as night and day. Despite the major differences, there will always be a point where all trainers stand on even ground. It’s a question that’s presented with the dawn of each generation: “Who will your starter Pokemon be?” The question doesn’t have a right or wrong answer, each starter is strong against one, weak against the other, and so all trainers are placed on level footing, with a decision that may be the root of their differences from then on.

All About Pokemon Lillipup, Herdier, and Stoutland

By Emily

Being one of the first Pokemon available, almost every person catches a Lillipup within a few minutes of starting their journey in Black or White. Many times Lillipup is evolved into Herdier, and then forgotten in a box. However, this dog-based evolutionary line has quite a few surprises in store, from abilities to attacks. All of these Pokemon have at least one useful ability, which is usually overlooked due to their typing. Lillipup for example is the only fifth generation Pokemon who can have the Pickup ability.

Pickup is very useful in the beginning of the game, as you can get useful items just by battling trainers or wild Pokemon. Both Herider and Stoutland can have Intimidate, which can come in useful during double or triple battles, though their best ability comes from the Dream World. Scrappy will enable them to damage Ghost-types with Normal-type attacks, which can be extremely useful if the opponent Pokemon can’t easily damage your Herdier or Stoutland.

The Inside Scoop On Pokemon Black And White

By Meylani

So Pokemon Black and White has been out since March 6, 2011. That’s plenty of time for players to have made their own team, beat the main story line, fill up the Unova Dex, or find majority of the items in the game. Though, some have yet to purchase this game. Some are not sure whether or not to purchase this game for fear they might waste their money. Many believe that there are no significant changes/differences in this brand new game. Some also aren’t sure if they should throw money down on a game that might “be the same as the others,” or “the new Pokemon look stupid. They probably suck”. Well, that’s what this article is about—I am here to help players decide whether or not they should buy this game or not.

First, some pros and cons! I’ll list the new key features and you decide whether you like or dislike the new functions. Easy, right (I would separate pros and cons into two different paragraphs, but that would make this a HUGE article!)? Okay, first off, there are many new features brought to players that are unique to only B/W. Including 156 brand new Pokemon that were added. New functions such as:

Team Plasma

By Matt

While playing Pokemon Black and White, you are bound to come across Team Plasma. Although they sound very vague about what they want to accomplish, it is clear that they (obviously) are up to no good. When you approach the first town, you will find Team Plasma speaking to the crowd about “Liberating”Pokemon. They say that people make Pokemon suffer by using them to battle, which obviously baffles the crowd. Another point they make is that releasing Pokemon will free them from the “burdens”that the trainer has put on them. As usual, this is another vague announcement confuses the masses, while they leave to preach at another town. One could say they are some sort of group of prophets that want to spread a message before a true catastrophe happens.

A Teenager’s View On Minccino (Chillarmy)

By Matt

When I was browsing Hardrock-Pokemon, I came across a strange Pokemon called Chillarmy. It didn’t look bad when I first saw it; in fact, I thought it looked kind of nice. I forgot all about it until I came across it again. This time, it was in the wild, when I was training for the Nielbasa City Gym. It was somewhere in the 20s (level), so I decided to catch it: with the first Ultra Ball I had. Of course, it worked, and I kept it, but since my team had another powerful Normal-type (Audino and Stoutland), I couldn’t keep it.

This all changed when I looked at the Pokedex app (for the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad). It says that Cinccino (second stage of Minccino) has a strong base attack and speed, but weak defense and special defense. Compared to Audino, which doesn’t evolve, it is still not as strong in terms of defense, but I decided to replace it anyway. Training Minccino is a very grueling task: Since it is a basic Pokemon, it has very weak base stats. The only attacking move it had was Doubleslap, which was very ineffective.

A Teenager’s View On Quilava

By Matt

It would be really hard to guess someone’s favorite Pokemon, seeing as there are at least 500, including the new Unova region. The Pokemon I would like to share with you today is Quilava, also known as Magumarashi in the Japanese versions of Pokemon. It’s always been a favorite for me since childhood. There’s really no possible explanation I can offer. I remember when I first looked at that Quilava Pokemon card. It gave me some sort of feeling to hold on to it.

A Teenager’s View On Togetic

By Matt

My second favorite Pokemon would have to be Togetic, the Happiness Pokemon! One might ask why this is; usually I just say because it makes me happy. (I’ll explain later). The first time I saw a Togetic was when I was playing Pokemon Coliseum (for the Game Cube). This is a spoiler alert for those who haven’t finished the game, so look away now:
